8 band audio equaliser and noise gate for any microphone.
There are several ways of improving station audio and this is one of the neatest because it can make a bad microphone sound great. It can be used with any microphone you are likely to have in the radio shack. In essence, it is an 8-band graphic equaliser, plus noise gate. The graphic equaliser covers 8-bands between 50Hz and 3.2kHz - the typical range for SSB. This enables you to finely adjust the audio response to improve your mic and match your radio.
Impedance is not a problem as the equaliser has settings for low, medium and high impedance microphones - a chance to try out some really ancient models! The noise gate can be great for reducing linear fan noise and similar ambient sources. Adjust the level at which background noise ceases to trip the gate and then adjust the delay for a smooth transition between gate on and off. Great for reducing false VOX trips.
LED status monitoring lets you see what is happening and the headphone socket is perfect for monitoring levels. Presets are provided for mic input gain and EQ output levels. There are two outputs so you can feed two radios and the standard 8-pin input socket is rear panel switched for Icom, Kenwood or Yaesu. Other connections are mic inputs for XLR, 8-pin or phono, PTT in, Mic out A/B switch, DIN power socket. Gate on/off, EQ on/off and power on/monitor level.
