Outdoor All-Weather Mast-Mounted Low-Noise Pre-Amplifier
This LNA has been designed in order to improve weak signal reception on all scanner bands from 25-1300 MHz continuous.
The LNA uses a weatherproof housing with metal baseplate with low-loss N connectors and HD plastic cover that protects the device against the weather. Supply of power is universal, i.e. two methods can be used. 1. Separate cable for DC voltage (thin coaxial cable is recommended which adds to reliability) to the SO239 connector on the LNA baseplate, or 2. supply via the RF coaxial cable. Both methods are equivalent. The LNA is protected against over voltage and against voltage spikes resulting from static discharges during thunderstorms.
LNA-DUAL-AIR-O has high linearity and high imd specs. High quality notch filters are used at the input which suppress out-of-band signals. The pre-amp would not be recommended in a high-RF area where your receivers are located very close to cellular, paging and broadcast towers unless your scanner has an attenuation by channel option where you can selectively attenuate incoming signals if overloading of the scanner front end is present. The pre-amp is designed for receive applications only, no T/R relay is present.
The combination of the wideband LNA and a discone, Ferret, air-band, or other high-quality antenna will result in an excellent active receive antenna system which has very few rivals. Mounting the pre-amp outdoor at the antenna site is by far the best way to boost signal without boosting extraneous signal received via the coax line. This is one of the most recommended ways to listen to distant stations.
(Note: For reception of only the VHF and UHF aviation bands, and/or the VHF and UHF public safety bands, see the dual-band outdoor LNA which will provide even better filtering against out-of-band signals.)
